Book Club (South)

There are many ways to improve your professional knowledge and skills. One way is to increase your knowledge is by reading current and relevant project management books. We've created book clubs that are designed to be small discussion groups led by a facilitator.

It's an informal group meeting for a Saturday morning breakfast and discussion. One person serves as facilitator to guide and promote discussion. It is an excellent way to meet other chapter members and open a dialogue regarding trends and challenges experienced by those in project management roles.

Current book:

The Project Management for the Technical Professional by Michael Dobson

Overview:

Are you an accidental manager? This is for technical professionals who suddenly discover that the skills which have made them successful aren't necessarily relevant in their new role as project manager.

Dobson covers management strategies for all technical professionals by combining solid information and extensive documentation with humor and perspective. He takes a ground-up approach to effective management. In addition, this book addresses the emotional challenge of management and handbook for dealing with Generation-X professionals and ageism. Remember...effective leadership starts within. Only through complete and honest self-assessment can you develop an action plan that sparks growth and achievement. Project Management for the Technical Professional not only helps you begin the journey, but it also brings you through to the end--successfully.
